Epilogue

Sergeant Vikstone reached level 80, earned the Loremaster of Northrend achievement, and completed the full extent of the Wrath of the Lich King dungeons and storyline content. He also earned the 2000 Quest Completion achievement during the playthrough. Vikstone regularly scoured the world of its herbs with his Netherwing drake and monopolized the Alchemy and herb market in the Auction House in Ironforge. No one was a saint in World of Warcraft.

Towers of Certain Doom (7)

Vikstone’s ultimate goal was to destroy the Lich King and there was nothing that stopped him within the fictional Warcraft universe. When it comes to this guide and all the real guest-appearances shown by other players, the line between fiction and reality is frequently blurred. My character was never able to fight the Lich King in the game. I was at a point in my life when I had to prioritize my studies. Even if I could continue playing World of Warcraft while Cataclysm was on the verge of release, I wouldn’t have had the time to raid Icecrown Citadel with true conviction.

Real Life

that takes class

Guilds eventually killed the Lich King in normal and heroic modes, with the world first 25-man heroic kill going to the Finnish guild Paragon on February 4th, 2010. Ensidia was actually the first to beat him in-game, but the achievement was overturned by Blizzard due to a controversial bug/exploit.

Ironically, it was actually the Lich King who defeated players first in Wrath of the Lich King during the raid encounter. It was all his grand scheme to draw out only the most competitive players in the world to Icecrown Citadel, instantly kill them, acquire their souls with Frostmourne, and raise them from the dead to lead the Scourge army. Players were subsequently resurrected and killed the Lich King anyway with the help of Tirion Fordring and the spirits who were released from Frostmourne. Bolvar Fordragon would take upon the mantle as the new Lich King in order to prevent the Scourge army, without a master, from running rampant across the world of Azeroth.

 The Aftermath

When it comes to this tale, does Vikstone ever kill the Lich King, avenge his family, and save Azeroth from certain destruction?

Father! Is it… over?Arthas Menethil

It’s pretty to think so.

One can simply try to understand what Blizzard intended to represent with Northrend. To me, it posed the theme of redemption and the prospect of Valhalla, where all warriors slain in combat aspire to go in Norse mythology to feast with the Gods. I wanted to leave the ending to this story open, because it was the journey that made it worthwhile. As a Night Elf, Vikstone was immortal to time just like the Lich King but in the end there would be only one man left standing. When it comes to who was morally right in his actions, Vikstone was ruthless, cutting down thousands of NPCs and players throughout his lifetime. His decision to fight the Lich King would have meant certain death and thus permanently end his family’s bloodline. He was prepared to make it his final act, perhaps to receive retribution for his own crimes and atrocities that he had committed in previous campaigns.Arthas Dies

Was there any good left in Arthas Menethil’s heart? Was any man truly beyond the reach of forgiveness? It was a question that would always linger in Vikstone’s heart as he found himself falling into the same darkness that befell Arthas.

At long last. No king rules forever, my son.Terenas Menethil II

In my heart I like to think Vikstone eventually succeeds on his final mission, destroys Ner’zhul, and frees the soul of Matthias Lehner so he can gain redemption for his sins and enter Valhalla.

The final resting place of a true warrior.
